trib.al – The number of homeless children in the U.S. has surged in recent years to an all-time high of 2.5 million, which means one child in every 30 will go to sleep without a home, according to a comprehensive state-by-state report out Monday from the National Center on Family Homelessness. The report called “America’s Youngest Outcasts,” blames the continuing impacts of the nation’s Great Recession, the lack of affordable housing, racial disparities, the challenges of single parenting and the ways in which traumatic experiences like domestic violence, “precede and prolong homelessness for families,” the report says.
